Lead Production and Manufacturing Engineer

Deep Space Industries is seeking an experienced engineer to lead the production and manufacturing of DSI’s commercial products. You will be expected to perform design updates for improved manufacturability; design and specify processes, tools, and production aids to optimize our build flow; and manage the modification, repair, assembly, integration and test of DSI’s commercial products, including using metrics to continuously evaluate and improve our production efficiency. As part of our small, hands-on engineering team, you will also be expected to play a role in all aspects of our work as we continue work on our first Prospector spacecraft, particularly assisting in spacecraft assembly, integration and test, and/or optical-scale alignment.

The ideal candidate will have particular experience:

  • Interfacing directly with customers and suppliers
  • Managing quality control and using quality metrics to improve manufacturing yields
  • Leading troubleshooting of quality issues
  • Leading efforts to review and improve quality and production management
  • Meeting aggressive production schedules
  • Identifying opportunities for improving our engineering practices across the board
  • Ensuring tool and machine maintenance

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering and/or management experience in low-volume manufacturing
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experience tracking, monitoring, and controlling/improving costs
  • Experience applying lean manufacturing principles
  • A technical understanding and practical knowledge of composite manufacturing and additive manufacturing processes or systems integration
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with all levels of organization
  • Excellent attention to detail

European Office

Luxembourg City, EU

Director of Engineering, Europe
DSI is seeking a senior engineer with broad management and systems engineering experience to head its Luxembourg engineering team. This position will report directly to the DSI chief engineer. The first  project is integration, test, launch, and operations of DSI’s first technology demonstration mission, Prospector-X. Duties will include development of facilities; hiring of engineering staff; working with the Chief Engineer to define engineering product and quality assurance approaches; and leading the development of the Prospector program in Luxembourg. Role also requires assisting the Chief Engineer and VP Business Development with securing new commercial opportunities, including shaping overall technology development strategy. Successful candidates will have a minimum of 10 years experience leading small teams in the end-to-end execution of cost- and schedule-constrained small satellite programs, will have exceptional references, and a demonstrated track record of success in different environments and processes. Director of Business Development, Europe
DSI is seeking a senior director of business development to cultivate new opportunities in Europe and grow DSI’s European office. This position will report directly to the executive, with the priority to acquire customers for DSI missions and technologies in furtherance of its strategic goals, identify new sales leads, pitching products and services at conferences, and maintaining strong relationships with existing customers. Travel up to 50% of the time. Strong technical background essential. Successful candidates will have 5+ years of experience in business development and/or customer-facing engineering work in the satellite industry with a demonstrated track record of success. Lead Power Systems Engineer
DSI is seeking a lead power systems engineer to design and test the power system for its upcoming series of Prospector spacecraft. Duties will include system-level design and configuration trades; power system design and analysis; functional element make vs. buy trades and development; switch-mode power supply design; power distribution and management design; avionics schematic and PCB design, functional and environmental testing, and ground support equipment design. Experience soldering electronic assemblies (particularly J-STD certification) a plus. Experience performing radiation testing of electronics a plus. Successful candidates will have a minimum of 5 years experience developing power systems for satellite or other high-performance applications. Location: Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.
Embedded Systems Engineer
DSI is seeking an embedded systems engineer to assist with the design and testing of avionics for its first technology demonstration mission. Duties will include embedded software development (assembly and C), schematic and PCB design, functional and environmental testing, and ground support equipment design. Experience soldering electronic assemblies (particularly J-STD certification) a plus. Successful candidates will have 5+ years designing and testing embedded systems, for satellites or other applications. Location: Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.
Lead Software Engineer
DSI is seeking a full stack software engineer to lead the development of flight and ground software for its upcoming series of Prospector spacecraft. Duties will include software architecture, version control, and testing design and management; full-stack software development, from assembly-level coding and debugging to user interface development for ground operations; software QA/QC design and oversight; and participation in system-level design of all spacecraft with operator-oriented thinking. Experience designing and building and testing electronics and electronic assemblies a plus. Successful candidates will have demonstrated a track record of delivering “good enough” software on aggressive schedules, for space or other high-performance applications. Location: Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.
Lead RF Engineer
DSI is seeking an RF design engineer to assist with the design and testing of low-Earth orbit and deep space communications solutions, including space and ground segments. Duties will include transponder and/or antenna design, fabrication and testing, including schematic and PCB design, functional and environmental testing, and system-level testing support (particularly EMC and sensitivity testing). Experience designing and deploying end-to-end ground stations is a plus. Experience soldering electronic assemblies (particularly J-STD certification) also a plus. Successful candidates will have either 5+ years experience designing RF systems for satellites or other high-reliability applications. Location: Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.
